FAQs

Mysore-style Ashtanga Yoga is a method of practicing Ashtanga Yoga where students practice a set sequence of postures at their own pace while receiving individual guidance and adjustments from the instructor. Unlike a led class, this approach allows for personalized attention and progression.

Yes, Mysore-style is suitable for all levels, including beginners. The self-paced nature of the practice allows beginners to start slowly and build their practice gradually with the support of the instructor.

  • Mysore is a self paced practice. The class structure is “open”, meaning that you have a flexible start time and you move at your own pace!  Most students practice for an hour.
  • Doors open at 6:45am // Marie Belle assists from 7-9am
  • You may practice ANYTIME within this scheduled time as long as you are able to finish by 9am.
  • On your first day, please introduce yourself to Marie Belle, let her know you are new, and she will guide you from there. The first week of practice will be 25-35 minutes.

Benefits include increased strength, flexibility, endurance, improved focus and concentration, a deeper understanding of the yoga practice, and a sense of community with fellow practitioners

All good! This is an All Levels Practice. Marie Belle is here to teach and guide you every step of the way. We will personalize your practice on a case by case basis.

Always consult with your doctor before starting any new exercise program if you have an injury. Inform your instructor about any injuries so they can provide appropriate modifications and adjustments to avoid aggravating the injury.

  • If you are new to the practice, Marie Belle will help you develop your personal practice one pose at a time. You can expect lots of individual attention when you work with Marie Belle who not only knows your name, but also understands your needs, strengths, goals, and challenges.
  • Most Mysore students practice daily, and we encourage you to commit to practice at least 3 times a week.
  • Please let Marie Belle know of any physical concerns, pains, or injuries.

  • Please feel free to say hello and introduce yourself to your fellow practitioners in our beautiful lounge area before or after class.

  • Please honor the silent space in the Mysore room and maintain silence while practicing in the studio. If you have a question, please ask Marie Belle directly.

  • Please refrain from assisting, talking, or interrupting other students.

  • Do not bring your cellular phone or camera into the room.

  • Practice with compassion and attention and honor your limits.

  • Drink plenty of water before and after your practice.

  • Hygiene is an essential component in our community. Please make sure you are feeling well enough to practice. If you feel sick, please stay at home and return when you are well.

  • Please wipe down any mats, props, or equipment you borrow and return them to their original storage space.

  • Please make sure that your body, clothes, and mat are odor free. We ask that you use deodorant and refrain from using perfume, essential oils, and cologne. Please minimize the smell of cigarettes, smoke, and body odor.

While Ashtanga Yoga has roots in Indian spirituality and philosophy, it is practiced by people of all backgrounds and beliefs. The focus in class is on the physical practice and mindfulness, rather than religious teachings.

The instructor will guide you when it’s appropriate to add new postures to your practice based on your progress and proficiency with the current sequence.

No you do not. If you do not know the sequence, this is okay! Just talk to Marie Belle and she will be happy to assist you. If you are unsure of what pose is next, please stand at the top of your mat and make eye contact with Marie Belle. She will come over as soon as she can. Do not add, skip, or otherwise deviate from the traditional Ashtanga sequence unless discussed with Marie Belle.
